Punchi Dambadiva

 

It started as a small hut with green branches and was first created as a small Dambadiva with a dharma hall. Its first pinkam festival was held on the Vesak poya day in 1981. He also began the construction of a permanent dharma hall, which was soon completed. The fast - paced shrine was a place of attraction for the people of Sri Lanka. The purpose of this construction was to give the people who could not visit the Dambadiva sacred area the opportunity to worship Dambadiva in the same way. Accordingly, after the completion of all the creations, it is possible to pay homage to the four shrines that came to the Punchi Dambadiva sacred area.

However Punchi Dambadiva is located along the Colombo - Pelmadulla - Embilipitiya main highway - near Nonagama  junction of the 22 km post - from Rathnapura from there lies its turn off along a mountain winding metalled narrow road running to about 12 km.

This Punchi Dambadiva reposes itself in the lap of the Sabaragamuwa  Province, where in the hazy distance loom the holy mountain profiles of Sri Pada, the holiest peak of all the peaks in our fair isle.

Also, the only two storied Maha Seya built in Sri Lanka is located in Punchi Dambadiva.
